I just thought I would write a little about the top 3 questions we are getting lately!
Did we ever find a place to live? For the many people who have been praying for this, the answer is YES! A wonderful young couple in our church (who just happened to be in our youth group 9 years ago!) generously offered to let us stay in their apartment for the next few months while they moved in with family. It has been a tremendous blessing to have a furnished apartment that feels like home! There are some great benefits to this apartment (the pool!! and the dishwasher!!!) but the best thing is that it is less than 5 miles from the school.
Why are we in California? Nick is in his first semester as a grad student at Biola University. He is pursuing a M.A. in Anthropology, with plans to later pursue a PhD. He is taking classes that will help in our current work, and are also helping him to process the last 3 years of our life in Asia. It will take several years to finish the degree, since we will only be in the States one semester every few years, but we are blessed to have this opportunity for him to further his education.
How are we adjusting to life in the States? I think the word I would use to describe the last month is "overwhelming." At first, just going to the grocery store and seeing all of the choices was sending me into sensory overload. There are lots of cultural norms that we'd just kind of forgotten about! Abigail has been a little overwhelmed by all of the new places and people. It takes a little adjusting! But in many ways, we feel like we are at home. It is good to be back!
