Date Night

Yesterday was wonderful day for 2 reasons: I got to take a much-needed nap, and I got to go on a date with my husband! Unfortunately, the nap resulted in me waking up 15 minutes before we were supposed to leave groggy and covered in drool, and no time to get ready because I had to feed the baby. Thankfully, Nick loves me no matter what I look like. Here is our self-portrait at the restaurant. Keep an eye on the window behind us--it will be important to the story in a minute or two.
It was lovely to enjoy nearly two hours of couple time together! This was the first time I had been away from Mayah since she was born. We enjoyed some much-needed conversations without little ones needing anything. We played cards while we waited for our food, something we used to do before we had kids.

After we had been eating our fried rice for a few minutes, I saw a furry little creature scurry along the windowsill behind Nick. Nick turned around just in time to see him jump onto the boxes behind him and land with a thud. Suddenly, I wasn't feeling like eating so much. We called the waitress over and said, "We see a mouse over there. Can we move to another table across the room?" The look she gave us was hard to decipher. She was either really embarrassed or she thought we were making too big of a deal over a little mouse. Either way, we moved our plates over to another table and continued to enjoy our meal. About 10 minutes later, the mouse darted across the room and behind our table again! Thankfully, we were done eating.

You might think we will never go back to that restaurant again now that we have seen a mouse there. No, we will probably be back next week. I think we have seen mice in almost every restaurant we have ever eaten. But that doesn't stop me from getting squirmy when they are lurking around my table.

Ok, back to the date. I got ice cream to go and we walked home, stopping in shops along the way. We had real conversations that didn't have to be interrupted. We didn't have to carry any children up the stairs. We arrived home to one daughter who apparently never realized we were gone, and another daughter who was just starting to get hungry. It was a great night!
