Nick teaches English at the college on Thursdays, so on Thanksgiving we all headed to his class to talk about the holiday. When we arrived, the students had decorated the entire room with balloons and handmade crafts! Many of the students brought cards for Nick and one girl brought some fruit to share. It was a great welcome!
First Nick taught the students a little about the holiday, touching on the importance of family, traditional foods, and religious freedom. Then he gave the students the opportunity to share why they were thankful. As each student stood up to talk, Abigail took that opportunity to run up and down the aisle of the classroom, laughing and screaming all the way. I think that helped the students to be a little more courageous in their public speaking, since all eyes were on Abigail!
At the end of the class time, we shared pumpkin chocolate chip muffins with the class.
After class, the students gave Nick a thank you gift for being their teacher this past month--a giant teddy bear! I always think it's funny that people here love to give things like stuffed animals, flowers and chocolate to men! The students also all wanted to take pictures of and with our family. I think the picture-taking lasted almost as long as the class itself! Here are all of the students lined up taking pictures of Abigail with their cell phones.
