A couple of weeks ago, Nick and Abigail went on a Daddy-daughter date to the gym where Nick works out. The people at the gym always like to see our kids, and Abigail always likes to get out of the house with her Daddy. So off they went with a backpack full of toys and DVDs to keep Abigail occupied while Nick worked out. Of course about 30 minutes into the outing, the DVD player ran out of power. Thankfully, Abigail quickly discovered that working out with Daddy was more fun!
Last weekend we went back to the gym just to visit. While we were there, I helped a new friend practice English, and Abigail pulled Nick over to the weight machines.
Abigail also had fun playing with our friend Na, who works at the gym. Na used to get offended when Abigail didn't want to be held by her. Nick explained to her several different ways that Abigail doesn't like to be touched or picked up unless she feels comfortable with the person. She doesn't appreciate being snatched up or poked without being given the opportunity to say no. Now that Na understands this little cultural difference, she and Abigail interact really well. Na even helps explain to others why Abigail is pushing their hands away when they are pinching her cheeks!
